Movie Time!

Make some popcorn, watch on your big screen (I believe phone viewing doesn’t capture the magnitude of the ocean and the subjects). Here are some videos of recent wildlife encounters. If you are having trouble viewing on the blog here is a direct link to the YouTube page

Jade, Luz and I had an incredible interaction with the Tranquil Turtle, a Hawksbill variety. We anchored the dinghy, you can see the line in the video, and turtle was right under us! Usually they split if you swim towards them but this one didn’t flee and actually swam towards us! We had about a 1/2 hour playtime together. Unreal!

We were fortunate to swim with these pelagic mantas as they come to this location to feed. The first day we spotted the local boats and zipped over in our dingy, pentapus. Mantas everywhere and quite a bit of marine traffic. The next 3 days we timed it to have a private viewing. A variety of conditions with deep water, shallow water, minimal current, strong currents, 2 mantas and up to 8 mantas! All to ourselves. As is the norm, Jade is a natural in the water and often in most scenes.

Here is where evi lived for 5 days

We anchored at Komodo Island, Indonesia and hiked to see the Komodo Dragons in the wild. The dragons are the largest lizards worldwide. These were about 10ft long with half body and half tail. Not sure what this behavior is….intriguing!

This elusive cuttlefish was from a couple of months ago. They were just hanging in the shallows and I managed to get some footage on the old GoPro. I’ve upgraded (?) to a dji.
These creatures are quite amazing. Neither a squid nor octopus but their own unique critter. They are masters of disguise and not only change color but you’ll see in the video, change texture in baffling ways.

Here’s a favorite from a previous post. Enjoy!

More to come!
