We bought our tickets home for June 30th! I’m excited to be going home–it feels like we’ve been gone a long time, and I’m missing family and friends and food (food that we can’t get here…bagels, Dick’s Deluxe burgers, torta deliciosa, dim sum, Haagan Dazs coffee ice cream, etc.) Both of our thoughts have turned towards home. There are lots of boring details to work out like take the car for an emissions test to renew the tabs & pay the insurance, and sort through our things in the basement to find what we need for the summer. We’ll be staying with my step-mom Ellen in Sequim until our tenants move out at the end of August. And there will be adjusting to raising a small guy on land…new systems to figure out, again.
We think about what we’ll do when we get back with me at work come September and Riki & Tomu at home. Riki is excited to have all sorts of adventures with Tomu. I’m sure it will also be bittersweet when the time comes, and that we will miss our simple life on Guava.
These days Tomu is full of energy, and he wears us both out pretty easily. He has gotten very adept at pointing, and makes it crystal clear for us what he wants. 🙂 We’ve been keeping things mellow, not sailing too much or too far. When we get somewhere we stay put for 10 days to 2 weeks, exploring on land everyday, hanging out with locals, eating well, and going to bed early. We also do the daily tasks of boat life: washing diapers, schlepping water, the perennial picking-up of a small living space (mostly Riki does that!).
We aren’t doing so well on the ole EC these days. Often Tomu poos on the deck or even in the cockpit. If we notice fast enough, we shove the potty under him and sit him down on it. Otherwise, we clean up. And pees…I can’t remember the last pee in the potty! I guess we’ve gotten lazy about sitting him down on the potty, partly because if he doesn’t want to he cries and screams.
