Ten days out of Savu Savu we were pretty much out of fresh fruit and veggies, so we hitched a ride along with our friend Biju in a Fijian fiberglass long boat with a 40 horsepower engine on it over to the island of Taviuni. The boat went very fast and was rather bumpy, too. Luckily the waves weren’t too bad.

Biju, his cousin brother Vijay, and Tomu in the fiber boat.
Then we got a cab ride for the 45 minute ride over gravel, then paved roads to Somo Somo, the main town which had a veggie market.

Biju was so sweet with Tomu, holding him until he fell asleep in the cab. When people love the small one it makes my heart just swell and love them, too. 🙂
We hung out in town, shopped, had lunch, walked around, and then made the return trip. It was an 8 hour adventure, but so worth it. We returned rich with mandarin oranges, grapefruit, papaya, cucumber, green onions, cabbage, green beans, bok choy, potatoes, eggs, yogurt, and cheese.
