Summer solstice & Christmas

We got invited to a somatic dance party and potluck to celebrate the summer solstice. It was outside, everyone barefoot, and drizzling on and off. The music was a wave set, so starting off mellow, getting crazy, and back to mellow. It was so fun to dance!! It was a big effort to get there, as we sailed back to Paihia, then drove 30 minutes to Waipapa. It was worth it though!!

Stocking time!

We had a nice snorkel on Christmas Eve — I saw my first nudibranch, and we saw a brittle star. We also saw a variable oystercatcher on its nest, and a NZ dotterel on its nest. And our friends Hilton & Melva came for dinner.

On Christmas our friends Grace & Dan invited us over for lunch, along with our friends David & Kate & Tilly on SV Walrus. We had a veritable feast! There was brisket (my fave), ham, roast chicken, green salad, noodle salad, potato salad, coleslaw and carrots. And 2 new desserts — a trifle and a pavlova.

It was our first time in a house in 3 months! It was a real treat and a lovely day spent in good company.

I got Riki a guitar for Christmas, and David & Kate stored it for me on their boat for a month, then they wrapped it in pink unicorn paper, carried it in the dinghy, on the foot ferry, and then on a 4 block walk (in the rain) in order to get it to Grace & Dan’s house on Christmas. Wow, what good friends!!

Jade used all her money (10 dollars) to buy me a dress from my favorite clothing shop in town. It was on the $15 dollar rack, but my friend Mary, the shop owner, gave her a deal. Mary also helped facilitate Jade buying the dress I wanted. 🙂 I didn’t get to try it on in the store, but it fits great! Then she didn’t want Riki to feel bad that he only got a coupon present while I got a real present, so she picked out some new swim trunks for him (that I paid for). That girl has a really big heart.

  1. Hurrah! I recall Em’s first Christmas in Australia. When I asked about their Christmas plans she told me they were going to the beach for a picnic. Talk about a disconnect…going up in New England, Christmas meant SNOW!

Wonderful peek into your world. Delightful stories of gift giving. Love to all. Nancy and Bob

  2. Can you share a picture of you in the dress?
Houses are overrated … kind of neat that you hadn’t been in one for so long.
Merry Christmas to you all … and Happy New Years — you’ll usher in the New Year way before us! Big hugs!
