Filipino grocery stores

Once when I was in the NCCC grocery store in Babak, a song came on and all the workers started doing a choreographed dance. How joyful!

Some things I think are so ingenious about the grocery stores here: plastic bags come with an extra bit of plastic so you can tie the bag shut without using the handles; also, baggers use the ends of cardboard boxes and put them in the bottom of the plastic bag to give it more support. In addition, when you buy anything in a plastic bag, the vendor will tie it shut but leave one end not pulled all the way through so you can easily open it, and then re-use the bag.

Other things are confounding, like which line can I check out of?

I’ve learned to shop using a basket instead of a cart because it allows me to access more checkout lines.

I always get a buko mango shake after shopping. Mine is in the photo in front of the dragonfruit sign. They are delicious and cost less than a dollar.
