Before we left the boat in late June, there were about 11 bags of various and sundry chips that I tried to give away. I didn’t want to leave them on board for two months, as I was afraid of tempting vermin or insects. All of the chips were kinds that I had only bought to have in case we needed snacks — none that I actually liked. However, Riki didn’t want to waste all those chips, so he gathered them up in a Baggu bag and brought them along. For the rest of the trip (Lombok-Bali-Singapore-Seattle) someone had to carry the “chip bag”. I think we arrived to Tacoma with about 8 bags left in the chip bag.
When we left Seattle for Japan, Riki left the “chip bag” but took 2 individual bags with us. We carried them throughout Japan, ate one of them while in Takashima, and brought one back to sv evi.

I share this story not to “chip shame” Riki, but to give you an insight into his character. 🙂 He hates wasting food (though he loves to eat well); he hates wasting money (though he likes spending it on experiences); and he wears his clothes until they are threadbare and falling apart. In these ways, he is similar to my aunt evi.
These traits have enabled him to make his money last longer — something I am very grateful for, as we can have this time exploring as a family without having to work.
