Boulders in Belitung

We had a rough passage from Kumai, Borneo to Belitung. It took us 48 hours: it involved 2 sick children and Riki hand-steering for 3 hours in the dark because the autopilot couldn’t handle the wind direction/wave combo. Both Jade and Luz recovered after the first night but it’s hard parenting sick kids at sea.

We were ready to stay in one spot and rest for a bit. Belitung has tons of huge granite boulders, all bunched-up together in groups. There were cool caves between and underneath the boulders. We explored them with Eva & Jan, Tonda, Teo & Zita on SV Kagou. Our last morning Tomu took the paddleboard alone to a new bunch of boulders. We later spied him with the binocs atop the highest pinnacle! He made it back safely to the boat. I think it’s good for him to have some adventures on his own, even if the “what ifs” my brain goes through are stressful.

We checked out from Belitung after a week there. It took 8 hours…beating our previous record of 7 hours for formalities the last time we checked out of Indonesia in Sorong. We think immigration was trying for a bribe — they took all our documents and said come back in 5 hours to get your stamped passports.

Fishing platform — there were about 50 of these we had to avoid on the N side of Bangka Island
Jade was gifted an embroidery kit in Belitung, and she promptly finished her first piece on the next passage
