My brother Weston, his partner Justine, and their two kiddos Jasper (age 3.5) and Mira (age 23 months) arrived to Phuket on Saturday, three days after we did. I went to pick them up at the airport, and we arrived back to the beach by evi just at sunset.

We enjoyed a mellow week at the anchorage, swimming off the boat, playing on the beach, and enjoying delicious and affordable Thai food at the beach cafe. We loved the beach cafe! Smoothies were $2.00 and mains $3.00 – $5.00. So nice to sit in the shade with a smoothie while the kids play in the sand.

We did one big town excursion to Old Town Phuket, then to a splash pool/indoor trampoline park. It was surprisingly easy to get around with 5 kids and 3 adults: we could request 10 seater van on the app Bolt, and it always came within 5 minutes.

We had a delicious lunch for 8 at this local cafe: samosas, yo tiao (Chinese donuts), roti and naan, plus Thai iced tea…for 350 baht (12 dollars).

We had Thai banana pancakes from a street vendor for our first dinner course. Luz chose mango with chocolate. Second course of sushi.
While we were playing, Riki diagnosed the engine issue and replaced the starter battery. He changed the engine oil. He sourced, bought, and fit stainless steel pipes and fittings to reinforce our bimini structure so we can build a full enclosure for cold weather ahead (Japan and Alaska). Also, he got a cover made for Pentapus! It looks fancy now, except for the ole T-shirt on the outboard.

Our visitors have had a few maladies so far: Weston got some string of pearls jellyfish stings, Justine a slight sunburn, Jaspy threw up for about 24 hours, and today Mira is sick. But they are all adapting well to boat life. Jade says, “Justine is a fun adult. And Worty is a fun adult.” Nice to have some of those around. We’ve been playing lots of games in the evenings. We taught Justine Doppelkopf, and she taught us Yoo-haw. We went for our first sail yesterday, about 22 miles, and no one got seasick. 🙂
