Our trip north from Langkawi to Phuket involved 4 days of motor-sailing tight to the wind. Unfortunately, we had pretty rainy weather, and lots of wind (20-25 knots). The sails were lumpy: the first sail Tomu and Luz both threw up, and the second sail our bimini finally gave up the ghost and shredded in the wind. Riki and I went for a beautiful snorkel in the rain at Ko Rawi — I saw some new species of fish. 🙂
At Ko Rok at around 1 o’ clock in the afternoon, a fishing boat on the next mooring over let go of its mooring and drifted into us! First time we have been hit by another boat. It made a small mandarin orange-slice shape dent in the fiberglass near the bow. Riki jumped into action to push them off of us, and he put some epoxy in the dent to protect the fibers. Yikes!

As we approached Chalong Bay in Phuket, we went to turn the engine on because the wind had died. It wouldn’t start. We ended up lowering the dinghy underway, mounting the outboard on the dinghy, and using the dinghy to push evi into the anchorage.
Whew! Made it, by the skin of our teeth. It’s always something with boat life. We got all checked in, no problem.
