Moments of delight

Last night after a glorious day hiking with friends and hosting friends for dinner on our boat, the kids wanted to go swimming at 8:15 pm. The water was flat calm, the sky was pink and orange, and I was just watching some White-fronted terns dive into the water. The kids put on their wetsuits and jumped off the side of the boat (for the first time), then swam to the back. Repeat about 10 times each. Jade worked on her dive. Luz wore the floatie arms, since she still isn’t quite there with swimming.

We sailed back from Urupukapuka Island on Sunday in a steady 25 knots of wind. We had just the jenny up, partially furled. We were heeling over quite a bit, and going fast. The kids were very excited (and I felt a little nervous). Then a group of 4 dolphins started swimming alongside us, surfacing, then diving down on both sides of the boat. It was so magical! Here are a few dolphin pics from our first dolphin encounter a few weekends ago, when one dolphin, J-9, played around our boat for about 15 minutes while we were at anchor.

  3. Ola! We are in Colon, Panama and have just completed a tour of the canal and locks. I saw this small(er) boat pull in to a lock and immediately thought of you. (I don’t know if you may go through the canal, but I thought it was interesting to envision you doing something like this!)

We will traverse the canal tomorrow (Saturday) then we fly home to the cold, wet PNW on Sunday.

Your blog posts are wondrous. Thanks so much! Love to all. Nancy
