A weekend of firsts

This past weekend we joined our friends Taylor, Brad & Rex from SV Pangea in a bay near Waewaetorea Island.

The water was so clear! We tried a lot of fun water activities for the first time in New Zealand.

Riki’s first spearfishing catch! He went with Taylor, who is a spearfishing ninja.
Maiden voyage on the paddleboard — the wind picked up and Luz & I had to be rescued by Riki in the dinghy! Lesson learned — always start heading upwind Hannah!

Saturday night in the anchorage a pod of 11 dolphins were playing between the boat & the shore. They kept leaping out & doing tricks. There was also a mama & baby dolphin. Riki got these pics:

All three kids tried snorkeling for the first time. They were so excited! When I woke up Sunday morning at 7 am, Tomu was up and reading. I asked why he was up so early, and he said, I want to go snorkeling again! Riki took Tomu and Jade snorkeling while Luz and I went paddle boarding, and they were stoked to see a sting ray and lots of fish.

Last Wednesday the boats were racing past us in the anchorage in Opua. Luz’ teacher was on one of the boats!

    And I have to say your knocking it outta the park on firsts adventuring week done… Riki you nailed those dolphin pics beautiful so playful really caught their spirit. Love your life out there very exciting. My friend Jane & Victor of the once famous Victors coffee in Redmond… Bought a boat a…um well it’s a live a board and going from PR to VI currently…I hope to meet up with them one day, but I’m too chicken for big blue crossings…
    I wish they’d go to New Zealand it’s on my bucket list, we’ll see…
