Paradise (sortof!)

We sailed overnight from Lakeba to Paradise Resort on the south side of Taveuni island. Riki caught a skipjack tuna trolling and gave it to the resort kitchen as a type of sevusevu. We had lunch and the kids had a swim in the pool.

The wind picked up from the north and a mooring line broke — a Hallberg Rassy called First Light broke free while its owners were in town. Riki jumped in the dinghy, zoomed to the boat, got aboard from the side, and started the engine. He drove it to a different mooring ball and secured it with the help of the Paradise resort dive boat.

The resort owner then told us that all sailing guests had to leave because the moorings weren’t safe with the wind from the north. So we carried on to Viani Bay and anchored in 20 meters of water. Riki fell into bed at 7:30 pm, exhausted. I managed to buy 30 eggs, 10 carrots, and ketchup from the resort. 🙂

  2. it’s be hard to plan meals for such a long haul… and by the time you’re reached dinner meal #25 , you’ve probably lost some ingredients along the way due to necessary snacking! Thanks for the photos too!

  5. WTG, Riki! Fending off sharks, spearing fish, and commandeering an unknown boat to bring it to safety–all in a day’s work. But Han, buen trabajo consiguiendo 30 más huevos, tbn! Comer es vivir.
